I am Sabrina Islam, a PhD candidate in Integrative Biology Biomedical Sciences at the Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University. My research focuses on malaria transmission biology and host-pathogen interactions, particularly investigating the immune response to severe malaria. As a research assistant, I have worked on Plasmodium falciparum Baso-Lateral Erythrocyte Binding Protein (pfBLEB), a surface protein expressed on gametocytes of the malaria parasite. My interests include understanding the modulation of immune cell responses in severe malaria to uncover novel insights that may contribute to therapeutic strategies. I am working as a graduate teaching assistant at Florida Atlantic University. I instructed several labs, including Health Service microbiology, general microbiology, biodiversity, etc., and worked with some renowned professors at Florida Atlantic University. These experiences helped me to develop my ability to engage and mentor students in the biological and biomedical sciences. I completed my Bachelor in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at Jashore University of Science and Technology and Masters from Khulna University. During my Masters, I worked on several projects, including multi-drug resistant bacteria isolated from retail meat and anti-tuberculosis lead compound screening from bioactive compounds.
