Md Obayed Raihan is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chicago State University College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. He received his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Science and Technology of China. He completed his Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) degrees at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. With a career spanning 14-years in academia, Dr. Raihan held positions at the Department of Pharmacy at the International Islamic University Chittagong, Bangladesh initially as a Lecturer, and later at the Jashore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh progressing from Lecturer to Assistant Professor and eventually Associate Professor. In 2023, he joined the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, Chicago State University, USA as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this role, Dr. Raihan served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, University of North Dakota, USA. His research interests encompass fundamental and translational studies in neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, drug repositioning, and computer aided drug design (CADD). Notably, Dr. Raihan began his early career as a Quality Control Pharmacist at Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bangladesh. His research endeavors have involved extensive work with cognitive neuroscience using transgenic mouse models of Synucleinopathy (Parkinson’s) and Alzheimer’s diseases, focusing on glial cells characterization, including microglia and astrocytes, for biomarker identification and the development of glia-targeted therapeutics. Dr. Raihan serves as an editorial board member for Aging Communications and The Eurasian Journal of Medicine, and he also contributes as a reviewer to several international journals, including the Journal of Neurochemistry, Journal of Neuroinflammation, Glia, and Advances in Traditional Medicine, Bioscience Report, and F & C Pharmacology. He is member of various professional organizations, including the American Association of College of Pharmacy (AACP), American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN).
